The Siberian Husky is a natural athlete. They require exercise in some
form - whether that is walking, playing or working. However, it is a
misconception that the Husky needs lots of open space. Adequate
exercise can be achieved within a small fenced area or with daily
walks. Your secured area should be secured with at least a six foot
fence and preferably 2 feet beneath the surface too. If you don't they
are likely to jump over or dig their way out. They are not known as
"The Greatest Escape Artist" for nothing. 30 minutes of hard play every day is sufficient. If you have one Husky, you will need to be quick and ready on your feet for play. If you have two Huskies, they can entertain each other. But while it isn’t necessary to have two, it is certainly helpful to have another dog around that likes to play. Nothing replaces a good long walk or a run in harness. Although not necessary every day, to see how much a Husky enjoys this is very infectious and you will be longing for those trails each day. Keep in mind that all Huskies will find a way to amuse themselves almost anywhere they go. That is why it is always important to find ways to keep them entertained. With their intelligence coupled with their power, they can be a handful for the unwitting home. The happiest Husky is one owned by an active person or family with a strong sense of responsibility, who will give it plenty of exercise and has a firm, consistent training routine. It is recommended for new owners to attend dog training classes with their puppy and to always exercise the dog on a leash. Siberian Huskies have a very strong desire to run. No road sense and if let off a leash, or it escapes, it will just run and run. The only thing that will stop a husky is a car. |

I saw my first Husky in the late 1960's around 1969 I believe it was.I remember seeing this beautiful majestic dog with the most beautiful blue eyes. I was only a child and I thought it was a wolf. My dad was horrified that someone would want to own a dog that was in his opinion "half wild". Read more... |
